After studying art and design, specialising in theatre costume at the Institute of Arts, Bournemouth, I renewed my early passion for drawing and painting on moving to Norwich 5 years ago. Last year I joined up and coming local artist group, Simply Eclectic and now exhibit my work regularly.

Artists Statement

Can a picture touch the soul? In an attempt to analyse the meaning behind my work, I find myself coming back to this question.

The soul can surely be neither complete, nor peaceful, without reference to the spiritual side of human nature. Yet, in our ever more materialistic world, the enlightenment and self fulfilment gained through spiritual learning is often forgotten or totally overlooked. Practices such as meditation or philosophy, once so revered, are now suppressed with harsh condescension.

Spirituality however, need not only take one form and I choose to revive an interest in the ethereal world through my painting. My aim is to express my own fascination with the unseen and to remind myself of the pleasure of free thought and deep feeling. My hope is that the resulting images may tap into the emotion of the viewers, compelling them to consider, and inspiring their imagination.

So, can a picture touch the soul? I believe it can, and have made it my highest aspiration to create a work that does.
